11:47 am - I watched Watchmen
The movie was exactly what I expected it to be. Zack Snyder does a great job transforming a comic into a movie. I would say he's kind of a one trick pony, but I don't want to forget his other remake, Dawn of the Dead.

Since the movie was exactly what I expected, I was somewhat disappointed. It really is right off the pages (just like 300) and that impresses me exactly none. I always felt that the book had pacing problems and the movie did nothing to correct that. The movie dragged through the mud of its own altered 1985 for 2 hours and then ended so abruptly you could barely remember the rest of the film. Thank God for JEH's portrayal of Rorschach and the characterization of Daniel (and I won't lie, the gratuitous nudity of Miss Jupiter) because were it not for those well executed elements, I would have considered leaving, going home, and simply reading the damned thing again. It wasn't an adaptation, it was a reprint with sound.

I was also impressed by the realism of most of the violence. Some parts just made you damn uncomfortable. Thank you, Jeffery Dean Morgan, for your stellar, scene stealing performance as Edward Blake.

I'm going to head off to another galaxy now. L8rz. <><

6:59 pm - I might catch flack for this...
I'm to the point where I think there should be a separate award for "Best Portrayal in a Biopic". The Best Actor / Actress awards have become more about accuracy of portrayal than depth of acting.

Just one opinion.

Whenever I look at LJ from work (where I can't log in or the site is blocked) my default user pic changes to some random blond guy. It kind of freaks me out.

11:23 am - That's Okay. I feel the same.
Good morning. I was reading LiveJournal this morning and decided I had a few extra minutes so I should post and update my life to anyone out there who still cares. (I'm sure there are one or two of you.)

My home life is a little rocky. My current room mate, for personal reasons, has to move out. Which means I either need to move because I can't afford this residence by myself, or to get another room mate. I'm pretty sure my good friend Dan is going to fill the spot. I've been against living with friends in the past, but I think Dan and I will succeed in staying out of each other's way. Joe and I have done just fine and have had some good times. Things change. It happens.

My work life is a pretty big part of everything right now. It's where I spend a lot of my time. Right now I'm in the application and interview process for a promotion. It's been a long process that started back at the beginning of July but I expect to have it all finished next week. I actually can't talk about the process until its complete. However, I'm hoping for the best. I'll let you know how it goes.

My social life is somewhat uneventful. I've been spending a lot of time with a good friend who is going through a tough time. She is going through a pretty big transition AND helping to raise a baby. (My little niece Gwen is one years old yesterday! :) Yay!) I've been trying to be a friend to her as best as I can. The problem is... I'm kind of a jerk. I'm a lot better than I used to be, but I'm still a pretty big jerk. Sometimes I don't realize how much of an asshole I'm being. I'm trying to be better, but I'll admit where I'm wrong.

On a creative thread, I feel I'm in a good place. I'm working on a handful of smaller projects and one larger project for Elmwood (the small production company I work with) and personally I'm still working on my Vampire game which recently started a new chronicle. That's kind of an exciting adventure. Our last Chronicle ran for over 5 years and was more successful than we could have ever hoped. The new chronicle gives us a chance to tell a different story and to do it right creatively and logistically from the beginning. We're getting a lot of compliments on our administration and our story which is something we would hear occasionally at our last Chronicle but we now hear it every game. It's a great feeling to produce something people enjoy. Also, personally, I've started writing something recently that I'm really proud of doing. I'm excited to see it through. Now, lets see if it lasts.

I'm a little tired of doing these "big updates" every three months because I get lazy or busy and don't update. Not being able to update from work anymore really hurt my update schedule. I'll try to be better. Really.

PS if Opus or Bob still read this, I really would like to get back on Fantasy FB this year if someone is doing one. :)

11:39 am - And now "Don't Cha" by The Pussycat Dolls as sung by George Takei
So, Richard Cheese was pretty amazing live. I had the pleasure of seeing his show at The Paradise Club in Boston. Lots of audience participation. An amazing band. Some overall great music. The band came out and started the show with the Cheers theme before Dick even hit the stage. All in all, a very enjoyable evening, despite the drive.

Aside from that, my life has been busy. I miss you all. Let's hang out soon, ok? :)

6:01 pm - Indiana Jones
For those of you on my Friends List who have been saying "this is the worst Indiana Jones movie ever" and "It sucks" and "George Lucas is a hack"... you have a serious problem if you consider yourself an Indiana Jones fan.

Go watch the other movies again, then re-watch Crystal Skulls. It was an awesome Indiana Jones movie. You're missing the point. Go back and try again.

7:39 pm - Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
This message to you comes from the 18th floor for the Stratosphere Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Spending the weekend here and am going to try to enjoy every minute of it.

In the preparation for my vacation, I missed Whaler's birthday on Monday. Since I like her, I am going to install my very own retroactive continuity just for her. Happy late Birthday.

11:46 am - The Ides of STEVE!
Joe and I had great fun throwing a St. Patty's Day shindig last year and we decided we would like to do it again.

On the IDES OF MARCH (March 15th) we will be hosting another St. Patty's Extravaganza and you're invited. Bring some tasty treat to share... bring some booze to share... enjoy some of our delicious corned beef... and party like its 2008.

Joe should be here most of the day. I will be joining the fun around 6 I believe. Tell our friends. Make sure everyone knows the place to be on the 15th.

Guinness... friends... partying... it's that simple.

11:13 pm - SWING Swing swing
The last couple of weeks have been a pretty interesting start to 2007 for me. I moved my desk at work into the new unit that I'm joining. This unit, known as the SWING Team, will be my new home at the soul sucking corporate giant that owns my soul for a paycheck. It's not at all where I wanted to be, but the places I wanted to go wouldn't have me for whatever reason. I applied for three different positions in the past 8 months. I never even got an interview. It wasn't lack of qualifications on my part, just better qualifications (read:favoritism) from others applying. 2 of those jobs I didn't get an interview for obviously didn't hire me. The 2rd, the one on the SWING team, again, didn't interview me, but at least they hired me. I can't complain too much there. As far as I'm concerned, its not what I want to do with the rest of my life, but for now it keeps me in steak and Angel DVDs. (Other things as well, but these two things came to mind first.)

I've recently completed two different Scripts for Elmwood Productions which is a lot of fun for me. I love being involved in the film making process, even on such a small scale. It makes me envy people like BlurryChris who actually get to use big boy film making stuff and are really good at it. I really look up to Chris. He does some great work.

On other creative fronts, City Walls, the Dark Ages Vampire LARP I've run for the past 5 years reached an end this past Saturday. It went off on an awesome high note. No one saw it coming because I didn't tell any of the PCs ahead of time and it made every moment that much sweeter for the players. They all seem very appreciative and thank you to everyone for all the praise. Might I add, that's the most PCs I've ever killed in one session. Woo. While the Chronicle is finished, another chronicle will begin very soon with a new setting and people already seem excited about that, which takes a lot of stress away from me in regards to slapping a "The End" on the current Chronicle.

I'm also involved in another gaming project which is very different than anything I've ever tried before. It should be very interesting to see if something new and different will be received well by our current stockpile of gamers.

I've see two movies in the past couple weeks and I loved them both. The first was Cloverfield. I'll admit to being a JJ Abrams fanboy. I think he's absolutely brilliant and everything he touches turns to gold, Armageddon not withstanding. That aside, I loved Cloverfield. I thought it was an amazing and scary perspective of the monster movie genre. I think he did make an original American monster movie. Was it about the monster? No. Does that make it LESS of a monster movie? I think not.

The other movie was Juno. Amazing screenplay for a wonderfully acted movie. Funny and charming. It felt very real and had me from hello. the one thing I thought was a little "eh" was Michael Cera. I don't have much of a problem with Michael Cera. I never watched Arrested Development, but it seems like he plays the same character in any movie. It cute the first couple times you see it, but its starting to wear on me. It makes his characters predictable and a little boring. He didn't have a lot of screen time in Juno, which made it easy to swallow, but I'm afraid to watch another movie with him in fear of his presence in the film annoying me out of my enjoyment. Does he branch out at all? If he a more talented actor than he's giving away? I guess we'll find out together, Internet.

Well, as I write this, the minute hand passes the 6 which means I need to get some sleep. Work tomorrow, then actors gym- OH

Last Saturday I did a reading of two plays at Green Street... very cool. I've decided recently that I wanted to do some more acting in a more serious way so I got involved with the Floating Theater Company out of Middletown, CT. This was my first public thing as an actor since middle school... and I had a blast. I look forward to more acting and fun. Thank you so much to Rachel (who will probably never read this) for helping me get involved.

10:44 pm - Goodbye 2007
With my vacation beginning from work, the end of my year has arrived. I love taking the end of the year and few days of the next off from work. I love New Years not only as a holiday but as a nice time to recharge my batteries. Although I don't have the money to do any traveling this year (and I would really like to travel) I'm still going to make some day trips and maybe take a weekend somewhere.

I'm sure I'm going to post again sometime soon, but if for some reason I don't... Happy New Years!

Also, Concertina is awesome:

8:31 pm - I've Got You Under My Skin
I'm feeling much better from the virus. I'm still a little sore from the physical aspect of being sick and my appetite is suffering. I think my friend Jenn put it best when she said "Its like my stomach doesn't trust food again yet" and I agree.

Back to work today I lost some vacation hours from the 28th due to my sudden outage on Friday. That sucks but they were all very understanding. I tried to get it unpaid but that didn't work out. Oh well...

The holidays are drawing even closer. I've been very good about not letting me get them down this year. I don't have a lot of Christmas shopping to do this year, which is also nice. I'm done except Gwen (my niece) and my friend's mom, who I was asked to gift. I can only imagine its because she is getting me something. She likes Grisham and I'm told she doesn't have the Innocent Man, so that sounds fair.

Tomorrow night I'm on a Guest List for a concert, so that should be fun. Happy Holidays to all.
